In the fall of 2021, VP Saint Louis embarked on a unique and inspiring endeavor at Oakland Playground, adjacent to the magnificent Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri. Harnessing the power of community and the beauty of nature, our dedicated members supplied volunteer labor and equipment to construct a remarkable 'stump' turtle sculpture.

This extraordinary creation was crafted from 144 tree stumps sourced from Forest Park itself, creating a whimsical and captivating centerpiece for Oakland Playground. The design of the sculpture was recognized with a prestigious ASLA merit award, celebrating the talent and creativity of our team.

Our volunteers, in partnership with Forest Park Forever, worked tirelessly to position the stumps and meticulously level the area around the sculpture. With every stump carefully placed, we aimed to create a harmonious blend of art and nature, honoring the rich history of Forest Park. The stump turtle sculpture stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving the natural beauty of our community and infusing it with artistic expression.
